As 2017 comes to an end, we can begin to look back at a year that has been an exciting one for digital marketing.
An emphasis on UX has improved customer experience across different channels, native advertising has come a long way from its clunky beginnings, live content has proliferated and improved, and better data use has meant further improvements in targeted advertising.
Planning for next year’s social media marketing initiatives? Here’s what’s working and what you can expect to grow in 2018. Add these trends to your marketing plan so you stay ahead of the game this new year!
5 SOCIAL MEDIA MARKETING TRENDS TO EXPECT IN 2018
People and businesses alike are flocking to Instagram stories. In fact, Facebook recently announced that IG Stories had surpassed its competition (Snapchat) by acquiring 250 million daily active users within a year of its launch. Since the release, users have come out from behind the camera to share their behind-the-scenes moments, daily happenings and personalities through stories. With this hot new social tool taking over the scene, we can predict that it will only get more popular in 2018.
Whether you’re working with influencers or micro-influencers, this trend in social is likely only to grow for 2018. In fact, Forbes.com says:
“As more people create their own viewing experiences on their personal phones and computers, the influencer marketing space will continue to evolve in sophistication, customization and measurability.”
Speaking of measurability, I believe that the evolution with influencer marketing will be all about brands doubling down on the analytics from their influencers. A smart business will want to measure more than just reach. They’ll need a direct correlation between the influencer and purchase for influencer marketing to continue.
ROBUST AD TARGETING
These days, people are served with so many ads per day that it takes a good creative angle to catch their attention. David Kley, owner of Web Design and Company says:
“Ads are going to become more singularly purposed in nature, with a very specific goal and conversion place in mind, whether it be a mobile or desktop experience. I also think that the mobile ad platforms will show major growth in 2018, including Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, etc.”
Hate it or love it, LIVE video is a trend in social media that will continue to grow in 2018. I mean, isn’t it obvious with every social media platform out there jumping on the LIVE video bandwagon and adding new features monthly. In my opinion, it’s a great outlet to connect with your audience and all it takes is a smart phone and some good lighting and audio.
If your business hasn’t integrated Facebook Messenger Bot into your website yet, you’re SO late to the party. Messenger is a great way to offer instant one-on-one customer service and support. Gotta complaint? Handle it privately (and in real-time) with messenger. Gotta customer with a question? Messenger is an immediate way to assist them. You can also send customers order confirmations and shipping info, and invite them to check out related products.
TWITTER WILL CONTINUE TO DROWN
While other social media platforms have seen steady growth, Twitter has failed to grow its user base in 2017. Recently, the platform tried to revive its reach by expanding its traditional 140 character count to 280 characters, but this effort of success has yet to be seen.
