Optimizing your website for search engine optimization can seem like a lot of work, but if you follow these 3 easy SEO tricks you should be ranking on Google in no time. SEO is not a one-time fix. It takes time, determination, and persistence. However, the outcome of good SEO practices can bring in lots of ROI.

The three most important  SEO tricks for Search Engine Optimization include:
1.       Optimizing your Title tags
2.       Optimizing your Images
3.       Creating Back Links

Tip #1: Optimize your Title

The easiest way to optimize your title tag is to think like your customers. What would your customer search for to find this particular page? Depending on what the page is about will give you your answer. Take this Wikipedia page for example. This Wiki is all about Mercury (an element) and the author of this page has done a great job at putting the Title (Mercury Element) in the correct spot.

Let's use a photographer's website as an example.  Photographer Joe just wrote a great blog about his newborn photo shoot with baby Emily.  What do you think is going to be the main subject of this blog? If you guessed baby Emily, you're right. However, 'Baby Emily" is not what your customers are going to search for on Google. Instead, customers are going to be googling something along the lines of "newborn photo shoot." This is why those great photography websites with "Princess Emily 9 months" as the blog title are not ranking on Google. Google doesn't know that Princess Emily had a newborn photo shoot.

A better Title Tag for your newborn photo shoot with Baby Emily would be something more like:

-Tampa, Florida Newborn Photo Shoot
-Tampa, Florida Modern & Fun Newborn Photography
- Tampa, Florida, Fun Baby Photography|Newborn Photo

As you can see from the examples above, the more details the better. Keep in mind, Google will only allocate about 70 characters. So keep the title short, sweet, & to the point.

Tip #2: Optimize your Images

Optimizing all of your images on your website can be very time consuming but you must keep in mind that this is a great SEO practice if you want to truly optimize your webpage. There are a few nitty-gritty details to keep in mind when optimizing your images. For example:

  • Utilize the Alt-Text. Ever wonder what “Alt-Text/Tag” means? The Alt text or Alt tag is what helps Google to read your images. It's the attribution to your images. Since Google can only read copy, this is a way for Google to know what your image & page is all about.
  • Rename your generic “123456.jpg” to something that reflects what the photo actually is. Google doesn't have eyes!
  • Be conscious of what copy you type around your images. If you post a maternity photo be sure you're writing about it in your copy surrounding that photo.
  • Take advantage of captioning your images, another way for Google bots to read your images.

Example for filling out the image Alt-Text
Filename: maternity-sunset-photo.jpg
Alt text: Sunset Maternity Photo
Caption: Kate's Sunset Maternity Photo Shoot

Tip #3: Create backlinks using your Social Channels

Backlinks can greatly influence yourGoogle Rankings. If your website URL is posted on a trusted website such as Pinterest or Facebook, Google sees that and adds to your credibility. It is also especially good to get back links on other types of websites such as public forums, event websites, local listings, & other industry-specific blogs.

So how do you go about doing this?

  • Network with other professionals within or out of your industry
  • Sign up for all local listing websites and provide accurate information with your website URL
  • Post links to your website on all social networks. Social media is a great way to get referral traffic back to your website & an easy place to add backlinks.
